artist presentation

Claire Nicolet lives and works in Paris. After training in engraving and bookmaking at ESAIG Estienne, she went on to graduate from the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris in 2015 under Jean-Michel Alberola. While her early practice centered on drawing and printmaking, she soon shifted her focus to painting.

Her work often begins with walking - slow explorations of urban and natural environments that spark observation and reflection. What started as cartographies and mental sketches has evolved into paintings where architectural forms intertwine with lush, imaginary vegetation. These compositions suggest worlds without people, yet still vibrant and inhabited.

Nicolet has taken part in residencies across the world, including Yishu 8 in Beijing (2019) and aboard the research schooner Tara during the Tara Europa expedition (2023). Recent projects include a mural for the open-air theater in Nanterre and an exhibition at Galerie du Jour, Fondation Agnès b. (2022).
