KILLION HUANG's artistic style was shaped by his living experiences across two radically different environments: Hangzhou & New York City. He takes inspiration from his peaceful childhood memories in China, but his ideas and practice really took shape while he was studying art in the US. This is represented in his work where bold colours counteract seamlessly with the smoothness of the brushstrokes.
NYC opened his eyes to a whole new world and gave him insights into a queer community he never knew existed. He started specialising in figurative art around that time, as a result of the sense of freedom he felt in connecting with like-minded people from all over the world. It was a time of discovery both about himself and others, and it translated into emotions and an energy he directly projected through his brushstrokes.
