Partons

A painter and draftsman trained in spatial design at École Duperré in Paris, Jacques Merle works across painting, drawing, architectural interventions and textile art. His fluid figurative paintings draw on mythology, the Italian Renaissance, fairy tales and animation, bringing these references into a contemporary visual language.

Each work begins with a few lines of poetry, which become the starting point for his drawings and paintings. Working across canvas, wood, murals and embroidery, Merle extends his painting practice into material and space, creating a close relationship between the figure, architecture and the body.
