Brussels is getting a new artistic jewel. From May 22 to 25, 2025, The Rooms takes over Mix Brussels — the former headquarters of the Royal Belgian Air Force, now transformed into a creative hub by avant-garde architect Lionel Jadot. A setting worthy of the event: an art fair with a unique concept where each gallery takes over a room to unveil its own universe.
EDJI Gallery is thrilled to take part in the fair’s inaugural edition, and to break new ground by presenting new mediums, including tactile tufting works by Shishi San, ceramics by Philippine d'Otreppe, and a selection of glass pieces by Marilyn Sonneveld.
The fair is open to all, entry is free but tickets are mandatory, please book a spot via this link.
About the artists :
Philippine d'Otreppe (b. 1994, Belgium) is a Belgian artist based in Brussels. After earning her degree from the Arts University Bournemouth in 2015 and spending five formative years in the UK, she returned to Belgium to establish her artistic practice. Philippine's work is versatile and exploratory, with ceramics playing an increasingly central role. Her enduring passion for reportage drawing continues to drive her curiosity, allowing her to document new environments through expressive sketches. She also channels her creativity into painting, employing diverse mediums such as acrylic, oil, and charcoal on surfaces ranging from canvas to silk, each offering distinct avenues for expression and experimentation.
Shishi San (b. 1993, Vietnam) is a multidisciplinary textile artist based in Brussels. Her practice centers around tufting, creating playful textile sculptures that explore color, form, and pattern. Since adopting tufting as her primary medium in 2019, Shishi continuously experiments with organic shapes, symmetry, and vibrant palettes, ensuring each piece is unique. Adopted as a child by a Belgian family, her Vietnamese heritage significantly influences her work. Drawing inspiration from Vietnamese folklore, traditions, and broader East and Southeast Asian cultures, Shishi blends personal narratives with cultural motifs. Recently, she expanded her practice to include three-dimensional tufted sculptures, notably fluffy vases, marking a significant evolution in her artistic career.
Marilyn Sonneveld (b.1990, Netherlands), is an interdisciplinary visual artist who graduated from the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam. She currently lives and works in Amsterdam. Her artistic practice spans various materials, techniques, and scales, including large-scale oil paintings, glass sculptures, panels, and installations. Through a dynamic interplay of color and form, her work explores intimate narratives that address themes of the body, self-acceptance, vulnerability, and sexuality.
