Perpetual Misunderstanding (Garter Snake)

Robert Martin’s practice explores queer life and representation within rural America, drawing on the landscapes, folklore and visual memories of their Wisconsin upbringing. Across painting, watercolour and installation, Martin challenges the idea of queerness as something urban or out of place in rural settings, instead presenting it as an inherent and natural part of these landscapes.
