Killion Huang

EDJI Gallery is thrilled to announce its second participation at The Armory Show with a solo presentation by Chinese artist Killion Huang, opening in September 2026 in New York City.

EDJI will once again be part of the Presents section, which highlights emerging galleries under ten years old through focused solo presentations.

About Killion Huang :

Killion Huang (b. 1999, Guangzhou, China) is a figurative painter whose work centres on queer life, intimacy and the domestic spaces in which relationships unfold. After receiving his BFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York in 2022, he returned to China and now lives and works in Shanghai.

Working primarily in oil on canvas and pastel on paper, Huang paints interiors inhabited by solitary figures or couples drawn from his close circle. His subjects rest, embrace, sleep or share space, with attention given to gestures and moments that might otherwise pass unnoticed.

These domestic interiors function as spaces of intimacy, protection and partial concealment, reflecting the conditions under which queer life can be made visible or remain private. Rather than treating intimacy as spectacle, Huang focuses on its everyday forms: a shared bed, physical proximity, a quiet gesture between two people.

Colour and light shape the atmosphere of these scenes. Light moves across skin, fabric and furniture, while saturated colour connects figures to their surroundings. The rooms are not simply settings for the figures but contribute to the emotional structure of each painting, carrying a sense of privacy, closeness and enclosure.

Huang’s work has been presented internationally, with recent institutional exhibitions at X Museum, Beijing and Iris Art Museum, Suzhou, alongside gallery exhibitions in Brussels, Shanghai, New York, Hong Kong and London. His work is held in the collections of the Tom of Finland Foundation, the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art, X Museum and A4 Art Museum, as well as the Song Art Collection and PTSD Collection. Later this year, Huang will undertake a residency at The Cabin LA.
